  1. I tried to burn dvd+r with nero, no luck but it will burn dvd+rw with no problem. I see they have a new update, 5.5.9.0, and it includes nero express. Does anyone if this update supports dvd+r?

If you have Nero already, the upgrade is free !

    DVD
Nero provides you with a standard user interface that makes creating any kind of medium child's play. This also means that the tabs which define the properties of the DVD are also largely identical to those of a corresponding CD. The procedure for creating a DVD (ISO) is slightly different, for example because this kind of DVD will not always allow multisessions, so the corresponding tab will not always be available. Options like the choice of format ('Mode 1' and 'Mode 2 / XA') are not available on DVD (ISO)s, so this area is deactivated on the corresponding tab.

DVD is short for Digital Versatile Disc. On the outside, a DVD looks like a standard CD. However, it is able to store more data (currently up to 4.7 GB compared with a CD's 650 MB) as the information is stored more closely together, and the disc is written in up to four layers. This information has to be read by a special laser with a modified wavelength, which is why standard CD drives cannot read DVDs.

Nero enables you to burn the following kinds of DVD:

    DVD-R
    DVD-RW
    DVD+RW
    DVD+R

  5. I installed nero 5.5.9.0 and now I am able to burn to dvd+r directly. I have the hp200i burner. Before I was burning to dvd+rw with nero, then using hp record now to copy the +rw to a +r. Time consuming but at least I knew I woulnd't make a coaster as I would check my ripped dvd to make sure it worked before putting it on +r. Instead of the 3 step process (burning to +rw, then copying, then burning on +r) it's smooth sailing now.
    Thanx for the help

Just a word to the wise, I was able to burn to +R media with HP200i and Nero 5.5.8.2/5.5.9.0 just fine with several brands (HP, Memorex, Verbatim) UNTIL I broke the age old rule of " If it ain't broken don't fix it" and I installed the HP firmware 1.27 upgrade for the 200i and now the drive will not recognize any space available on +R media, +RW is still ok but kind of upsetting. Hope this has not happened to anyone else but if it has is there a fix?

  7. Yeah, that same thing happened to me with the firmware... although I don't know about the if it aint broke part, cause I was getting blue screen crashes when I sometimes ejected a dvd formatted with DLA. Anyone else get that? The DVD+R problem got fixed when I updated to the new Nero though.

  8. My nero program wouldn't work right after I installed a new cd-burner/dvd-reader combo drive and I couldn't reinstall it because I lost the nero cd but then I downloaded that free upgrade and it works great. Are any dvd-burners down to $200 or below yet?

    Hi,

What's the difference between DVD-R, and DVD+R aren't they the same thing, since most DVD players support borth of them?
Playing them is pretty much the same in any drive or player. Various people are claiming various levels of compatibility in DVD players.

Burning them is something else. You must match the media-type to your burner. Right now '+' media is more expensive but I'm hoping it quickly matches '-'.
