  1. hi everyone, i'm new here and was wondering if you guys can help...

i have a dvd rip of a movie in my hd and i'm trying to burn it as an svcd w/ nero version 5.5.4.0 and i can't really get it to work. when i choose to write the cd...it encodes forever! i've tried waiting overnight for it and it turns out it just errored. i have a mitsumi 24x and hopefully you guys can help...

ohh, one more question (probably a stupid one but..)...why does it have to encode?

    thanks

  2. hrm? why does it have to encode?

i'm guessing nero detected the SVCD dvd rip as non-standard and you choose to "reencode the video"?

if nero does complain about the SVCD, just choose to turn standard compliance off and continue to burn. this way, nero won't have to reencode the entire movie again... also, burn max 4x

  3. hmm...maybe i said it wrong..

ok, i've got a dvd rip and i'm trying to burn it as an svcd with nero.
uhh i tried doing what you said, >> turning off the standard compliance (is that the "create standard compliant CD" box? well i de-checked the box ) and burning at 4x max. but when i hit "write"...the first thing it does is encode still?

sorry, but i'm a hardcore new guy...

  4. FLiPmOde,

You can't simply rip a DVD and have Nero burn it as an SVCD. The DVD rip files need to be converted into an SVCD format mpeg 2 file. What Nero is trying to do is encode your DVD compiant mpeg 2 file to an SVCD compliant mpeg 2 file. There's a better way to do this. Click on the "DVD Rip" link on the left under "How To" on the left hand side of this site. There are some very helpful FAQs that'll take you through the process. Either way, it's going to take you a couple of hours though.
