  1. Why when I try to incorporate a still image into a DVD project in DVDitPE is it so slow? For instance, if I use a JPEG (1 Mb) to create a button with a link to the actual still picture it takes about 30 seconds. A large mpeg file takes far less time to incorporate. I'm trying to create a photo album with a bunch of thumbnails on the menu that link to larger versions of the individual still picture. Is the program rendering the photo in some way that takes it 30 seconds per picture? What can I do to speed it up...anything? I don't think its the computer...1.7 GHz, 256 RAM, Windows XP.

    Thanks

Well, still pictures are notoriously slow... I have a picture on the wall that doesn't move at all!

Why in the world are you using a 1 MEG file for a thumbnail? Try changing the size to about 50 kB and link THIS one to the larger one.

the program has to encode the picture to fit DVD standards I think.

  4. The reason the thumbnail is 1 Mb is because in DVDit you just drag the original photo on to the menu and it automatically sizes it as a thumbnail and automatically links it to the original photo. It cuts out a number of steps (Too slow for high res pictures though!).

As was suggested by Greg12, the images seem to need to be converted by the program. The actual size in Mb isn't an issue, but the dimensions of the picture. The closer you are to final resolution (720x480) or lower, the faster it is.

It sucks, because although the difference is small, I can tell the difference between a photo originally scanned at 300 ppi compared to 150 ppi after burning to DVD and seeing it on the TV.
