I mean
should I take video with long height and short width or with short height and long width?
Which orientation is the best for people to watch on their different devices?
It's about creating demonstration video for my products. I don't know I should take the video. Any advice

You would hold the phone lengthwise with the "home" button always on the right side. This ensures you are shooting the video normally and more importantly it displays normally for any sort of media player that may not have that "sensor orientation" that most phones or other devices have

video and pictures have historically been taken in 4:3 or 16/9 dimensions, the first number is always the width the second the height. so longer than high unless you are a clueless iphone user like so many out there.

There is no doubt that landscape video is better to watch. However, it's getting more and more people using mobile devices which are mostly (in fact it's always) vertical. As a result, making a landscape video may avoid some people to watch. I don't know if I should take the video horionzontally or vertically
I don't know. It's my first time ever to think about this problem. Only today when I search on Google I get to know something about "Vertical Video Syndrome" .Some support it, some hate it. But I am by no means starting any unfriendly discussion. Sorry all -
Then why ask????

Think about it
TV screens are wider than tall
Movie screens wider than tall
Computer display is Normally wider than tall
Real Camera's have always been wider then tall when held normally
I think most of the time the video should be taken/filmed that way
Products displayed on a monitor or TV will be viewed that way
One handed vertical cell phone videos look small and stupid when viewed on the PC or TV -
If someone is viewing the video on a smartphone even if they held it vertically it would then display in letterbox if you shot it in landscape (remember home button on right side otherwise you are shooting it upside down)
Think about it- You had mentioned in the first post making videos as a demonstration for your product. This means you want as many people as possible to be able to view your videos. This also means you need to take into consideration that on whatever device they may be viewed on, NOT all of them will have sensor orientation.
Therefore you want to shoot your videos so that if someone watches it on lets say a PC media player, usb stick plugged into a tv, etc that if said device cannot properly determine the orientation like a smartphone can, that at least the video will still display properly and that is why you need to shoot in the landscape mode I had mentioned in the second post. Otherwise your video in these cases may appear upside down, sideways or even have the width and height swapped to look distorted. -
Not always, but do you want to become one of those people that doesn't know any better? Why ask the same question over and over again expecting to get a different answer? You said you want to promote your products. Will presenting video as if shot by an ignorant fool help sell your product?
As a result, making a landscape video may avoid some people to watch.
Do people creating professional product demonstration videos even use video created by phones? -
To me, any video shot in portrait mode screams amateur. Unless they intentionally shot it to look amateurish......

go ahead and shoot vertical cell phone video. who cares? just don't think about everyone laughing at you and your lack of video knowledge. cause they will be.

I pretty much only shoot vertical if something of interest is too tall to fit in normally. Like someone trimming a tall tree, which I recorded recently.

Ditto on this. I had to shoot something but I wanted it close up without a phones digital zoom. In order for it to fit into frame I had to shoot it vertically. The difference though was the video being just for me and not something I am trying to sell like the main poster had asked about

I think these videos give you the answer! -
Are you expecting your videos to be seen primarily by phone users? Are you shooting for artsy in-store portrait mode digital signage? Are you creating some unique art exhibit? If neither/none of these things is true, then you should clearly be shooting in landscape mode.

If you create a presentation to be viewed on phone, the answer is easy: do both. Select one to display based on immediate orientation. All phone programs/games do this.
However I have no idea if there is any standard to support this concept in video file like mp4. -
Ironically, my old cell phone is shooting horizontally when held vertically. This is quite clever when you know it because vertical position for phone is default and convenient, and it has small useless square screen anyways. But when I did this first time I was clueless and held the phone horizontally. The result: damn vertical video.
