  1. I've converted an Avi file to MPEG 2, tried to burn after adding chapters with VCDEasy, and the MPEG is 740meg to start with, but when I've added chapters and it burns the resulting image file it's 834meg !!

Therfore too big to fit on me CDR, what's going on ? is it something I'm doing wrong in VCDEasy ? All I've done is add the MPeg, goto chapters, add a chapter every 5 mins (about 8), and then click go.

    Help !

  2. VCDEasy does something called autopadding, where it adds null bits to the video in order to make the video more svcd compliant. I don't know how to disable this, and would like to learn how myself.

That's a sign that you probably have buffer underflow error's in your stream.

Disk images are always going to be much larger than the contents that will actually be burnt to the disk. Do not worry about the size of the bin file, when you load all of your mpgs into VCDeasy it will tell you the "approximate CD size" at the bottom. if it says 800MB's or less than it will fit on an 80 min cdr without overburning. I've had 900mb bin files before that fit on a 74 min cdr.

There will always be some overhead when making vcds and svcds, but its more like 5-10MB's. I don't know anything about VCDEasy adding padding, it never does for me. VCDEasy may prompt you to add scan offsets which can take up as much as 30MB's. These aren't necessary for most hardware players and you can turn this option off in the Settings/svcd player tab.

  5. I'll try turning the Scan offsets off, I was worried as it started to burn the disc, and gave a warning that the track was too big, but because I'd got Overburn turned on it ignored it, but said the track was over 830Mb !

The padding occurs when it's not multiplexed as (S)VCD, but as regular MPEG1/2 system stream - at least that's the case for VCD. Make sure to set the stream type to MPEG-1 Video-CD/MPEG-2 Super VideoCD on the System tab when encoding or as Type for MPEG Tools Merge&Cut/Multiplex tabs.

  7. Well I've tried using both VCDEasy (without adding chapters) and also Nero, and both are saying that the SVCD will be 830meg, yet the mpeg file is only 723meg !!

I encoded the avi using DVD2SVCD, avi to mpeg 2

I'm starting to pull me hair out !!

  8. 113megs over the mpeg size?? Like somebody said, your stream must be underbuffered.

My newbie way of finding out is to demux with tmpgenc and mux with bbmeg svcd setting. That usually pads where needed and gives me better results.

I do this demux/mux when i download an mpeg and vcdeasy says i need to set the scan offsets.

If these's a better way, I wanna learn.

  9. Well I finally figured it out !!

Simple Demultiplex with TMPGEnc and then multiplex as a SVCD and voila when I add chapters the mpeg size doesn't increase !

Well that's something new I've learned.

isn't that what you were supposed to do in the first place?

  11. It probably was but I've never had to do it in the past

As Mats said, next time, just look what is the stream type defined in the encoding program.

I had the same problem some tmes ago, and I found the solution myself, but now i noticed this thread too late.
    Best wishes,
