(I got this new laptop from work but since Sony does not support any other operation system on their new systems I'm stuck with XP.)
Now my problem is that no matter what application I use (WMP, wmplayer2, etc.) I can't play avi's without them totally crashing my systems with a blue screen memory dump.
Mpg's play fine. RM play fine. AVI's kill it!![]()
I've tried versions 3,4, and 5 of divx and no luck...I uninstall them and the avi's play sound fine but I can't see the picture now (indicating that I need a divx codec I guess).
I start in SAFE MODE and all plays correctly!!!!!!!!!!...which makes me assume that it is my video display driver(since I've tried all of the divx codecs already). I really don't want to watch all my movies in safe mode though![]()
This is a brand new system with an AMD Athalon 4 1GHZ, 20GB, 256MB, ATI rage mobility-M1 AGP. Since it is a Vaio I can't go to ATI for the driver since they say they don't support those kind of adapters. I can't get a new graphics driver from Sony because their support sucks ass.
What the heck do I need to do.

Maybe you should try slightly less high resolution on your monitor or reduce the colors from true to hi.
Are you using Open GL? I had problems playing video with WMP when I had a other program that's using Open GL running at the same time.
