Hauppage HDPVR2 using the included Arcsoft Showbiz software to capture to mp4 format.
2 to 3 hour long files when I play in windows media player or media player classic it says something like 120 hours and 1 or 2 or 3 fps under properties and actually won't play and seeking does not work.
Trying to restream in Avidemux results in the operation cashing shortly after trying to save.
The videos do not play on my WDTV Live HD media player, starts to play then reloops the first couple minutes forever.
Videos not seekable in Sony Vegas and tries forever to build the audio peaks.
Installing newest quicktime it plays in quicktime, and after quicktime installed seems to be working in Sony Vegas now.
has anyone had issues like this and has any advice? It also happens when I set the hauppage to downsample capture to 29.970 and 1080p captures which natively do 29.970 anyway.
I tried to search the forum but could not think of a search term for this issue, and google had no results.

Make sure that you power cycle the HD-PVR 2 before starting a long capture session.
Also. there tend to be more problems when MP4 is used as the capture file format for Hauppauge's high definition capture devices. Try using TS for output instead and see if there is any improvement. If you must have MP4, I have seen several methods suggested for re-multiplexing the video and audio from a TS with AVC video and AAC audio to an MP4 file without re-encoding. If you edit with VideoReDo TV Suite H.264, there is even the option to save as an MP4. -
I did recycle the pvr 2 the last couple times. As for ts, vegas cant read aac audio in ts but hauppage capture has a handy lossless(video) export to mp4 function but this function is also not working, the videos are being cut off at about 1/2 hour or so. It gets weirder too. I have tried TSmuxer to demus the streams and mp4box to remux and this causes the audio to go out of sync! Even more frustrating, if I use any of a dozen methods to manually encode the separate audio sream and remux by any method, the audio goes way way out of sync, like by over 1 minute. But the source TS file plays perfectly. I then tries TS format with mpeg1 layer 2 audio instead of aac, and this gets even worse. It plays perfect, but no editer or muxer wil read the file. And if I decode the mp2 the last hour or so decodes silent! And a ts with mpeg audio layer 2 CRASHES vegas.
Also note that with a TS capture the time is fine and plays pefectly in windows, I just can't figure out a way to edit it. The hauppage export to mp4 function used to work gret for ths, but now it either crasdhes the program or only exports 30 min or so. I am going to try next removing hauppage capture and reinstalling it again fresh, see if I can get the bugs out.If you want to see what I've done with my videos,

Maybe the method described here will work? https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/343902-Looking-for-ts-to-mp4-conversion-tool?p=2143...=1#post2143779

Here is mediainfo for the affected files having these issues. In my capture setting I set the software to resample the framerate to 29.970, exactly 1/2 of the source.

Why that just mess it all up
Why are use 3GPP
Sony vegas doesn't get long with any Hauppauge Colossus nor HD-PVR file never has and most likely never will
If wish transcode to try out Video to Video
As for video editor there a few you can try out that free Like VideoPad Video Editor or Paid ver CyberLink PowerDirector -
I have not heard of 3GPP before, it is not something I have chosen. I just used the Arcsoft showbiz which comes with the capture device to capture and assumed since it is mp4 file that it would be h264. It comes with another capture program called hauppage capture and it captures .TS video with H264 and aac audio, or optionally mpeg layer 2 for audio. Vegas can't read aac in TS for some reason, but it CAN read mp4 files with aac audio in them, very odd it seems to me this is. I have not heard of 3GPP before. It looks like I will wish to transcode, but having trouble finding programs that can properly read these files. I will check out the ones you suggested. So far Avidemux doesn't like them and as you know Vegas does not like them.
Strangely too, media player classic cannot playu them, it thinks it is like 100 hours long and cannot seek or play, but windows media player and quicktime plays them.If you want to see what I've done with my videos,
