This is how I want to make a video. out of two videos, one is a music video and one is not. I have video editing software, and put the two videos on the time line, the music video is on the lower timeline.m and matched them to exact the right place that I want the music video to begin. The non-music video starts first. then the music of the music video begins afterwards, according to the place i paste it on the timline. So the two videos are running at the same speed, I don't want to alter the audio, only the images.
I want to make one video out of these two. The final outcome video I want, shows one video for a few moments, then the other video for a few moments, then back to the first video for a few moments, then the second video appears for a few moments, then the first video appears for a few moments, on and on, until I get to the end of the music. It is really the music video that defines the story, and the audio I don't interrupt or turn on and off, the audio is played continuously as I switch from one video to another.
I want to be able to place a second or two of the music video onto the non-music video at various points, like every 2 or 3 seconds. I only use two videos. I don't want to attach one video to another, I want to intersped the images of the music video onto the non music video, in little.
If I am working on a timeline and I have the two videos, one on top of the other, can I somehow tell the software to take the images at 1:00-1:02 minutes from the lower video, and move them to the top video at 1:00-1:02, and then do this repeatedly throughout the top video. How would I do that?
I am new to video editing. Thank you.

Yes it can be done with most video editors. But it might be done slightly differently among various software. Which software are you using?
Probably the easiest way is to keyframe and adjust the opacity of the top layer. Whenever it's set to "zero", the top layer becomes transparent and the bottom will "show through". Whenever it's set to "100%" it will be visible and "cover up" the bottom layer. This way you can toggle visibility between the 2 layers -
I use Adobe Premiere so here's what I would do. I would skip ahead xxx seconds and cut both videos at the current time marker location until I reached the end of the videos. Then I'd go back and delete unneeded segments; there would be no need to move the segments at all since the layers are stacked. I'd unlink and lock the audio layer before doing the cutting.
PDR has a great workflow since it is not dependent on a specific editing program. You may be able to cut and paste keyframes (effects) to speed things up.

I am not sure I am using this forum correctly. I am trying to respond specifically to the above responder.
Thank you for responding. I don't know which software to use. Your idea sounds right, however. I was using the trial version of NCH Suite, which just expired and I don't know enough about video editing programs to know if I should purchase it. I also downloaded the trial version of Corel Video Studio, but have not started it yet. It is only 30 days, and I don't know how to evaluate it for what I need to do.
Which software did you get your idea from? Have you tried this idea yourself? Can you recommend any free video editing software that I can use to learn basic things in?
There are no video editing classes in the small town area I live in. I want to try learning the software on my own (I have been good at that in the past) before paying money for teaching and troubling with classrooms.
Thank you -
I would highly recommend editing software that's intuitive, and that would be Sony Movie Studio $49.

Corel Video Studio is in the lower echelon of editors. There's no future there. It's for newbies and simpletons.
Sony Movie Studio has a "composite level" envelope that's very easy to use for exactly what you're trying to do. And also, this is the same method that PDR recommended.
You don't need a video editing class, just use VideoHelp as your resource for all things video.Last edited by budwzr; 24th Feb 2015 at 10:30.

Hat's off to everyone then! Too many good posters here to mention individually, but you know who you are.
