    Hi all,
looking for some advice. Can anybody recommend a device for attaching to an older TV (composite/component only) ?
TV is 1080i, device could be attached either by wired Ethernet, or Wi-fi.

My intention is to be able to access and play content from my PC on this TV.

I'm not particularly interested in online "services" (Netflix, etc) at this time.

This one has component video out: http://www.amazon.com/Arrival-KDLINKS-HD700-Extreme-HD-Audio/dp/B008CBQSKU/ref=sr_1_2?...4372690&sr=1-2

Most recent media players are HDMI only, so there is not a large selection to pick from.

Thanks for that option. What about older models, ebay etc, etc.

Make sure you get a top quality cable if you want to run 1080 over component. Also you better double check if the device actually supports 1080 over component. It seems that the device referred by usually_quiet supports 1080i and 720p over component.

Alternatively, you can look into an external HDMI to Component converter box. HDCP could be an issue, but there are ways to get around it...

In my search, I ran across the WD TV Live Hub Media Center http://support.wdc.com/product/kb.asp?groupid=1010. They are not plentiful and some sellers are asking a small fortune for one.

The WDTV Live Plus (the newer WDTV Live Streaming doesn't support component out) allows 1080i over component, though you may have to set it reset it manually (according to forum posts) each time you turn it on. Used units run ~$70 on ebay. If you're okay with 720P, the Roku N1000 offers component out for ~$25 used on ebay.

Now discontinued, but look into a Sony SMP-N200 on ebay or Amazon. It has HDMI, Component, Composite, Ethernet and WiFi. I own one and use it to stream directly from my PC thru Serviio (DLNA), Netflix, Amazon Video, and VUDU. It is far from perfect, but it mostly gets the job done for my purposes with a few inconveniences.

    Some cons:
-Has trouble with some files when Fast Forwarding. On some videos, it results in it going back to the beginning.
-I've not been able to figure out a way to get to a specific time on a video other than to Fast Forward
-Subtitles work on some files, some not.
    -Does not play ISO's
-Plays back DVD Folders w/ no menus, but there is a brief pause between VOB's. If DVD is converted to MPEG, it will play it seamlessly.

    One quick pro:
Early on I tested it for Blu-ray support. I put a Blu-ray structure "movie-only" copy of Dr. Zhivago onto a Flash Drive (33GB's or so), and it played it perfectly.
Note: Over WiFi it stuttered as it could not keep up. I have not tested it with a ethernet connection.
