creating custom intros

hello im new to video editing and have decided to start doing daily vlogs and other types of videos to post on youtube but i cant for the life of me figure out how to make a custom intro to ad to the begining of my videos. im not looking for a long complex intro just one that kinda shows what im about so how do i do this what programs do i use

Any NLE, AviUtil is free.
Windows Movie Maker or the like.
Any Photoslide program, DVD slideshow GUI is free.
