  1. hey.. i was wondering, what cpu is needed to capture with vdub(huffy codec).. in high res like 768x576, without getting any frame drops?..

Will a intel celeron 600mhz do, or is a faster needed..

    Thanks..

  2. Celeron 600 'can' just barely do it if you have a 7200 ATA/66+ w/ 2MB buffer and a nice huge capture partition with lotsa free space even after the capture is done - but this is like 90% cpu useage with peaks that can drop frames.

You can tweak a bit, such as video and audio buffer and have your audio capture uncompressed PCM 48Khz 16bit. The larger bitrate (more HD writes) can be more than offset by the reduced cpu load in the down sampling.

still no guarantees as system config can do alot towards capturing, the 2-5% performance gain from tweaking the O/S, filesystem etc. can do alot.

there are also tweaks in the huffyuv settings for prediction stuffs that can help you out.

give it a try, but if you can't, use picview mjpeg @ quality 19, this is what I use.

    Celeron 466 o/c @ 583
    WindowsXP 384MB RAM
    720*480
    picview mjpeg @ 19 setting
    virtualdub preview/overlay off
    ata33 5400 w/ 26GB dedicated capture partition (1.5 hours max)
75-88% cpu useage. (peaks 92 sometimes)

edit: 2.5 hours max not 1.5
