  1. Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help me out with something.

I've been loaned a few screener DVD's from 2012 that I want to rip to my hard drive as a VIDEO_TS so I can burn and watch them after I have to give them back. Obviously these DVD's are out now so available to buy - but the versions i have are uncut and for me, better!

However it seems these already copied DVD's have some kind of block on them that prevents ripping and/or copying.

Has anyone else come across this problem before?

I'm using a Mac, and have tried all of the following programmes:

    Ripit
    MacTheRipper
    WinX DVD Ripper
    MacX DVD
    HandBrake

Basically when I insert the DVD it either crashes the programme or just tells me the DVD can't be ripped.

    Would really appreciate any help!

    Thanks

DVDFab HD Decryptor may be able to do it since you are apparently using a Mac. Do note that it's the subject of argument here whether or not it's truly possible to use the supposedly "free" ripping capabilities of the program after the trial period expires if you don't buy it but hopefully the free trial should be enough to rip your disc.

I used DVDFab HD Decrypter 9 once and it told me the trial was over.
I also have version 8 and the decrypter still runs fine and free.

  4. Doesn't work, just says 'process failed'....
Surely there must be a way to do this!?!

^Borrow a Windows computer and rip with the trial of AnyDVD. There are still some things that work better in Windows. If that fails, you are SOL.

And using DVDFab HD Decrypter (version 9) isn't rocket science. Just click on Try and you'll be in it, if the trials for the Copy section are over. I'm proving that point one more time even as I type. This is the third time I've used it, twice now with Blu-ray.

  6. Obtaining a Windows computer will be difficult. Are there no other Mac programmes out there that will do the trick?

I never said it was rocket science... it allows trials for the copy section, however with the disc being protected it prevents it from working. All i get is a 'process failed' message and then the disc pops out.

I see these screener DVD's all over torrent sites so there must be a way to rip it!

Sorry Salamagundy, those comments were not directed at you when I was talking about DVDFab HD Decrypter. I should have been a bit more specific about that.

You've tried all the major decryption programs for Macs. The only other one I know of is from Ideal, and I doubt it will be any more effective: http://www.idealdvdcopy.com/mac-dvd-copy.htm

Most of us use Windows programs for decryption and copying.

  8. Maybe as a last resort you could make an MKV of the main movie only:

    @Noahtuck

Probably has "Screener" embedded on the video. As for you Apple sentiment. I also get a chuckle when it's 1-2-3 on Windows and 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9... on a Mac!

    @ Salamagundy

Are you in or is the DVD from India by chance? If so, India DVDs are notorious for having unconventional copy protections that are impossible to break.

  11. @kerry56 no problem, appreciate the help.

@noahtuck a mac is what I'm given to use for work. I don't want to be branded as a fanboy so I'm just popping out to buy an angle grinder to rid me of this tarnished name. And I am terribly sorry if I'm not completely up-to-date with my piracy skills. I mean, silly me! By 'watermark' I was idiotically mistaken for some kind of 'protection' that's evidently been placed on the disc. Again, terribly sorry about that. I'll be sure to cut off 4 of my own fingers as a punishment this morning.

    Laugh Out Loud!!!

@lingyi nope, it's an official awards screener, but the funny thing is the disc itself appears to be a copy (purple data side) but it has all the official markings/artwork on the disc and sleeve from the production company.

I'm still trying to figure out why people are clambering over each other to assist with WAREZ.
