  1. Hi Everyone,

I've been getting some problems, with my WMP of the windows XP. I've been trying to play a VCD, and a message comes always, saying ' Incorrect Function'. The file doesn't play at all.

I've tried many other programs, such as WinDVD, Power DVD, The Playa, etc. None of them plays this VCD.

The stupid thing in all this, is that, if i play this same VCD under the Windows 98 or the Windows ME, it plays fine, with no problem.

I've installed all the latest codecs, even Divx 5 Pro. But the problem persists to continue.

I've tried the FAQ on the WMP Online, that they don't have got a help.

I've associated this file to the WMP, and still the problem persists... I don't know, what else to do.

I wonder if someone could help me please. Thanks in advance.

I get the same thing, invalid finction. I also have XP.

Also, I was told that if i could copy the .dat file to my hard drive and convert it to .mpg i would be able to play it. Well, the problem here is when I try to do that, I get this error: "CANNOT COPY AVESQ01: INVALID MS-DOS FUNCTION"

This is driving me absolutely NUTS! When I try to play them in any format, Windows Media Player, Power DVD, even a VCD player, it will even sometimes lock my system up. This is only happening when I burn the vcd's from the bin/cue files. The vcds I purchased work fine in all the players.

Anyone have any clue what's going on here? I really need some help before i chuck my computer out the window.

    Thanks!

  3. I think that is has something to do with the last few windows Updates from Microsoft. I use Creative labs DXR3 on my Windows XP machine for playing DVDs and VCDs. After I installed a few updates, my DVD software stop working, or maybe when I installed Real Player. I have XP Pro and so I did a system restore and went back before I installed all that stuff and then it worked again. I plan on creating a System Restore each time I load new software or drivers. I will only add the updates one at a time and if my DVD software stops working after, I will go back using System Restore.

I hope this helps someone. Leave more messages here, if you have any new insights.

Unfortunately rolling back to where windows first started sending me updates isn't a possibility. Even if it was i don't think it would solve my problem because i've never been able to play the vcds i've burned. as i said store purchased ones work fine.

    someone help me please!!

Ok, it took all day and night, but I figured out a solution to the problem. I still don't know what the problem was, I think it was a problem with fireburner burning the vcd from the bin/cue. So, the solution to the problem is this.

Extract the bin/cue with VCDGear!!! Load the cue sheet with it and extract it to .mpg not .dat! will play in all players. Then I burned it with my standard burning software, again success!!

    Everything works and plays fine!
