  1. I often create short dialogues for my students. I would like to be able to create an audio story - for example, the three little pigs - using a voice recording/editing program and voice morphing software. I know that the simplest way to do this is to ask a few people to help me read the story but this is often not practical or possible - very time consuming to pull together, to say the least. Is there some simple way for me to do this by myself? I was thinking that if the voice editing software could manage 7 tracks (one for each character) I could record each part in one track and then paste the part into voice morphing software...but, as you can probably guess, I have already outstepped my knowledge - but I hope you have the idea of what I want to do.

    Any help?

  2. I don't know of a multi-channel voice changer software but there are many free packages which would do the job with a little work.

http://www.nchsoftware.com/voicechanger/index.html is one. You can Google for others.

The method would involve recording each of the characters parts as separate audio files, running them through the voice changer and saving them off. Then, using Audacity, create a seperate track for each file. Each track can be cut and sections repositioned to achieve the right timing for each voice part. Save off as a stereo track (MP3 etc).

Using this method further tracks can be added for sound effects and music and the volume of each track controlled with the Effect settings.

  3. If you can live with just pitch adjustments you can use the Change Pitch filter in Audacity. Just mark the portions you want to change then select Effect -> Change Pitch. That would be a lot easier than creating several tracks then cutting and pasting them together.

  4. Yes, there is a lot of work involved in using a purely audio software. Another method would be to use a good VIDEO editing software which allows you to create multiple audio tracks. The benefit of this is that audio tracks can be cut and sectioned at will and each clip just slid along the timeline. If you have access to one I would opt to use that after you have produced the Voice Changer files. Similarly you can add sound effect and music tracks using this method.

    Ditto.
I prefer a video editor (Magix Movie Edit) to edit audio. I use Audacity and others for simple cuts and fades, but many chores that people call "simple" in Audacity go right over my head.
