my dvd player only plays NTSC vcd's. Is there a way to tell weather a vcd is in PAL or NTSC. Lately I have been downloading movies and burning them right to cd as a vcd through nero, but when i try to watch them i find out that they dont play right on my dvd player because they are in PAL format, and then i have to wait and encode them and waste a cd. What could i do to find out what the format is before i burn to a vcd? Thanks a lot!

are there any programs that can tell you what format the vcd is in?

This is rare. Nearly all DVD players play both NTSC and PAL VCD.
I assume this is not an original VCD cause it should be labeled.
What about play it in your computer ? ( obivously you are using one )
and click property, and it should tell you the format and pixel size of the VCD.
Hope this help.
