  1. I'm having trouble finding a subtitle editor that will properly edit .sup files the way I want it to. All I want to do is adjust the timing of the subtitles, but in sections (i.e. delay the first 160 subs by -180ms, and then the next 50 by -300ms, etc.) I've tried Subtitle Creator and DVDSubEdit and they both have options for delaying subtitles, but they're only capable of delaying every single subtitle in the file as opposed to delaying select amounts of subs; it's either delay all of the subs or nothing. It's quite frustrating, as this seems like a relatively simple task that I should easily be able to accomplish.

So is there a program that will allow me to do this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is your subtitle text-based or image-based? If it is text-based, you can easily change different parts of lines by different delays using Subtitle Edit. But if it is image-based, I'm facing the same problem that no better solution can be found than using Subtitle Creator.

Finally, I solved the problem using two software: Subtitle Creator and VobSub Joiner.
    Here are general steps:

    1. Load the original single .sup file into Subtitle Creator.

    2. Delete part of the lines and use 'Save SUP as' to make several SUP files, e.g. "01.sup", "02.sup" ,etc. This step is tedious but important. You had better move to the last line to be deleted and then hold the key DEL. Be careful not to remove too many lines since the operation cannot be undone. If you have done something wrong, do not save and load the original file to start over again.

    3. Load "01.sup" into Subtitle Creator and add +/- delay. Use 'Save VobSub as' to make the files "01.sub" and "01.idx".

    4. Load "02.sup" into Subtitle Creator and add a different +/- delay. The calculation of delay is a little bit tricky. For example, the last line in 01.SUP is already changed to 3 min 12 second. And the first line in 02.SUP is 6 min 20 second but need to change to 3 min 16 second. Then cut all the minutes and just adjust the seconds, i.e. use the delay minus 6 min 4 second. The resulting show time will be 0 min 16 second. This is because you need to add back 3 min when joining all SUP files later. You need to remember how many minutes to add. Use 'Save VobSub as' to make the files "02.sub" and "02.idx".

    5. Repeat step 4 for the remaining .sup files.

    6. If you have done anything wrong with the .sub files, you can just delete them. Then use the .sup files to try again.

    7. Open VobSub Joiner. Use "01.sub" as input 1 and "02.sub" as input 2". Give a new name (e.g. 01_02) as output.

    8. For the field 'Beginning of Iput', put the number of minute calculated from step 4, i.e. 3 in the example above.

    9. Hit the button 'Go'. It seems that nothing happens but you should be able to find the new file created already.

    10. Repeat step 7 to 9 if there are more to join together.
