    Hi,

I'm a newbie, and have some similar problems with others on the forum in running avisynth scripts in virtualdub. It was working fine until today, when virtualdub suddenly cannot recognise anything from my old avi scripts that worked fine unti now. Actually, both were working, when I learned how to rotate video, adjust brightness, using built-in scripts on vdub.

I was trying to run the avisynth scripts necessary to share or split the pane into two separate videos when avisynth commands were suddenly not recognized by vdub.

I/m running vdub 1.9.11 build, and the avisynth 258 version. I have been dicking around all morning without success.

I did reboot the system, download the new versions of both vdub and avisynth, as well as tried some of the ideas from similar threads (downloaded cedocida codec).

basic commands like avisource (and others) are still not recognized by vdub.

I am using a bunch of other programs to do video and image editing and transformation, including , including DVD slideshouw GUI, WINff, and probably others I can't think of at the momnent.

Thanks in advance for any help provided. Please advise.

    Hey Baldrick,

Have reinstalled avisynth at least 3 times....

The windows media player on my windows 7 machine does not have the option to run avs scripts, unfortunately......so I cannot troubleshoot this using wmp......

    Thanks,
    James

Might try virtualdubmod since it provides more information when using avisynth.

  5. Try MPC-HC to open an AVS script. When you use the "File/Quick Open File" menu, I don't think they''ll show up as a supported file type, but if you change the drop down box from "Media files (all types)" to "All Files (*.*)", then you can open them. Maybe WMP will open them in a similar manner. I don't know as I've never tried it.

If you're doing anything to Avisynth scripts, get AvsP.
Lots of editing help built in.

Sounds like you screwed up something with your system, not AVISynth. Esp. if "it was working before". Revert to an earlier installation point.

Yeah, I just had to reinstall XP twice trying to figure out why a script that runs on everyone else's machines won't run on mine. Hopefully it works this time cause I really don't want to have to try and track down the problem since it could be anything from drivers to hardware to software conflicts.

I know I did have a problem with the external feature that took everyone a while to figure out. x264 had changed their input support on the newer versions in July 2011 and the command arguement had to be changed to get it to work. Luckily we had a genius in the Virtualdub forum that figured it out.

Right now, I'm trying to get Cuda to work with the external encoder in Virtualdub. Others have gotten it to work but I've had no luck at all.

    Thanks everyone,

OK, the earlier installation (from before I had the vdub problem) still will not get vdub to play avs scripts. The MPC-HC does run the avs scripts (although had to click through direct x plugin out of data twice).

So from this, assuming the problem is in virtual dub?

As I am a noob at all of this, and just trying to produce videos of my research in Peru on the cheap, I am woefully ignorant of the possibilities.....thr truth is that I accidentally found vdub, either on this forum on a google search, or on one similar. In my noob-ity, I assumed it was the only (freeware) thing that would get me from Point A to Point B.

At this point, maybe let just let avs do its thing on MPC-HC ? actually, I really am comfortable with Vdub, if I could

    .....just.....get it.......to read......avs scripts!!!!

By the way I did have vdubmod, as well as avsp before my sudden problem. In the process of "troubleshooting" and reinstalling, these were removed

Your advice is highly appreciated. Great forum, great response!

  11. here my 2 cents:
    a. to open 32bit Avisynth scripts you need to use a 32bit Virtual Dub version and to open 64bit Avisynth scripts you need to use a 64bit Avisynth version.
    b. if you have multiple avisynth versions installed in you system, simply place a copy of avisynth.dll (and DevIL.dll) alongside Virtual Dub and Virtual Dub will use that version
    c. as a base script to see if avisynth itself is working, use:
    Code:
    version()
    Cu Selur
