Trouble Playing .avi

Can anyone help me? - Having trouble playing a video i downloaded. It plays with no sound & just a black screen. No problem playing any other divx on my computer. This one has "cam" in the title. Do i need a special plug-in to play this .avi file? Again, all divx,mpg's etc. play fine except this one. Any help appreciated. Thx :>)

Title is not important. What is the extension, did u try to open it in VirtualDub or AVIInfo???

Yes, Tried virtual dub with no luck. suspect it may have something to do with divx 5.0 not being installed properly, though i've tried all suggestions. Again i have an XP OS & no problem playing anything except Divx 5 encoded stuff..

It could be a fake. Some people put a black screen with no audio on file sharing programs and call it some recent popular movie like "[smr]panic room_full.avi" for whatever reason. I'd say that's what it is.

Thanks - was beginning to suspect it was a phony. Don't know why someone would waste time putting up a 2-Hour blank?
