Is there any software that allows me to edit an MKV the same way I can edit an avi (lets say xvid) in vdub?
My requirements are:
1# Need video and audio
2# needs to be very, very easy (as in I can visuall see the video as I edit it and can 'cut' parts out)
3# ideally it wont re-encode (kind of the same way mkvmerge doesn't re-encode).
These edits do not need to be down to the frame. Even if its 1-2 seconds off its ok for this project.

hmmm, interesting tool, but when I do a edit I do not have any video in MPC HC but video in VLC (which I do not use).
I also tried an FLV lossless video only edit. It did manage to load the file but when I tried to save it as HuffYUV codec it doesn't play in either of my MPC HC versions, in VLC or even with directShowSource. -
I thought you didn't want to re-encode ? Technically you lose quality with huffyuv because it's upsampled to yuy2, and when you re-encode again to your final format, you will lose quality again
video=>copy
audio=>copy
format=>mkv
This would be similar to editing in vdub with "direct stream copy" with no quality loss
FLV can't hold huffyuv, you would have needed to select "AVI" as the formatI also tried an FLV lossless video only edit -
I do not want to re-encode the mkv. I was able to save it as an mkv with my edit. But I did not get any video (black screen) in MPC HC. Only audio. I did about 1m test on two seperate MKV files.
But now that I got that app installed I do want to re-encode an separate FLV into a lossless format, with or without audio. I got an FLV that wont open in vdub (with directshowsource), so im hoping avidemux can solve the issue (I just cant seem to encode it).
btw: No matter what file type I try (flv or mkv) the encoding screen (haff or mkv copy) stays at 0% till its done encoding. -
avidemux is 3.6 32 bit (not all that stable tho, ive had to kill it in the task managed 4 times now).
mkv:
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L3.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames
Format settings, GOP : M=4, N=10
Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
as for the flv, not sure. But the mkv right now is more important. -
you mean 2.6? (not 3.6?) .
Some people are having problems with the newest 2.6 , try an older version. I've tested it on dozens of mkv and flv videos and it works fine . Or even go back to 2.5.x builds . They don't necessarily have to be installed, you can use a portable version

If you set it to "copy" it's not doing any encoding . Did you remember to enter the extension when you saved the video? (e.g. "myvideo.mkv")It just seems avidemux cannot encode it correctly.
If you are re-encoding the flv, you can open the flv in vdub with the ffinputdriver plugin for vdub , or with an avs script with ffms2 , or even use another utility like ffmpeg (or a GUI like winff, avanti) -
yeah 2.6, was a typo....
I tried 2.5, failed to load several flv's, once I got one working the encode seemed to have worked (was able to load it in VLC).
I also did a 'copy' on the mkv, so not sure what is happening. I can play the original fine, but the edit gives me no video.
Maybe ill look at all of this tomorrow. Been drinking tonight :P
