ffmpeg to capture audio from speakers?

is there a command line with switches for this? for the output to be an audio file?

For example, on my system:

 ffmpeg -f dshow -i audio="Stereo Mix (Realtek High Defini" -acodec libmp3lame "out.mp3"

Will record whatever audio is playing on the computer.

I think there is an error on the command line I see an open parenthesis with no closure.. also what would go there if I'm using alsa?

There is no error in the command line I gave. That is the name of the Windows device I recorded from. You need to follow the instructions in the link I gave to get the exact name of the device you want to capture from on your computer.
