    Hello

I'd like to use my Sony camcorder outside with the integrated microphone but it's no good when it's even just a bit windy.

Since everyone has the same issue with those consumer-grade camcorders, I was wondering if someone came up with a solution. I was thinking of attaching a piece of fabric with velcro, but I'm suspicious about the tiny circle that's visible and could be some sensor (autofocus? light?):

Does this camera have its own remote control? That might be an ir port for the remote control.

Yes it does, although I never used it. I guess it's meant to be used with the integrated projector.

So I guess I could try sticking some home-made wind shield and give it a shot.

    Thank you.

    Not necessarily.

I have a Sony 8mm analog tape camcorder (90's vintage) that has a remote. You can use it to start a recording from a distance with it on a stand or tripod or whatever. It can also serve as a playback remote when connected to a tv. Yours might be very similar.

I would double check your manual for the camcorder. Quite often they have a diagram with info on what the various parts are. it might say what that item is.

    Will do, thanks.

So there's no wind shield available for integrated microphones?

    Sure thing.

Unfortunately I can't help you there.

So long as you don't use heavy tape that might damage (or scuff up) your camcorder there is no reason not to try your idea yourself.

Also have you tried googling "microphone shield" or something similar to see if there are other options? Or maybe somebody has posted a do it yourself solution that would work for you.

Good luck - I'm sure you have probably looked yourself just thought I'd remind you if you haven't.

Yes, but dead kittens are meant for regular microphones.

I'll look further and experiment. Thank you.

Thanks! I'll double-check that it works with my Sony camcorder.

Thanks for the idea, but the microphone on my Sony camcorder is located right underneath the lens.

    But I got a reply from www.thewindcutter.com:
We do make a Stick-On WindCutter to fit the Sony HDR-PJ30. The price is $23.95. Here's the link. We don't have a retailer in Europe, but we ship there. Shipping is free worldwide on all Stick-On orders.
I'll order it today. Thanks for the info.
