You can if you have macrovision disabled. Why don't you just rip it? You'll lose alot more quality capturing it, not mentioning the audio.

The general answer is yes you can, BUT unless you have a way of dealing with macro vision it won't do you any good. It seems that many people here prefer to "rip" dvds instead of capturing. If you have a DVD drive you might want to consider it.

thanks for the advice, but how do I deal with the macrovision thing?? My caputure card is an ati. I know the ripping is best just wanted to see what this would look like.

Look for a "Video Stabilizer". Some remove macrovision.
The ones I know about are only for composite video not S-Video.
They are readily available in Canada. I have an "Optex V0760" and a friend just bought another (name) brand with exactly the same model number; and guess what, it had exactly the same circuitboard inside. Cost: around $35 Canadian ($20 US?) -
Why not just try digitizing from a DVD and see if it works?
I use an old Hauppauge 404 card that will digitize from any source including copy protected DVD's.
