  1. I just installed my intensity pro in a my PC and the hardware is working fine -- I can view the video no problem in Media Express and even Flash Media Encoder. I need to be able to capture a series of stills, but I can't find any why to do this on the PC (I typically do this kinda stuff on the Mac). Media Express has the open to save a still, but saves them as TARGA files, and as far as I can tell there's no way to change this option (each file is like 8MB). Can anyone recommend software that can do this? Ideally there would just be a button that I can click like "capture still" or whatnot.

i'm unclear on what you are attempting. to create a video from stills or capture screenshots from a video?

  3. I trying to capture stills from the live video source from the Intensity Pro card... the input is HDMI source from a video camera. I just want individual stills manually captured one at a time. Exactly like it works in the Media Express software, but saved as JPEGs or something that's compressed.

ok. i've not run across other software that can capture video and create stills at the same time. just convert the targa files to jpg. or play back the video later in vlc and capture screenshots as jpg.

  5. I don't want to capture the video, only the stills...I can convert the targa files if need be, but I will be capturing thousands of stills and the targa files will take up too much room.

  6. I should preface this by noting that I don't have the Intensity Pro, so I may well be wrong, and this won't work.

If you open Black Magic Media Express, there is a camera icon button on the bottom, center, that allows you to capture stills. I would expect that you can do that from preview mode.

  7. If the BM software won't allow you to capture a sequence of (compressed) stills in realtime, you can convert the video aftwards into a jpg or png sequence e.g. vdub

EDIT sorry, I misread that you wanted them 1 at a time ?

I just want individual stills manually captured one at a time.

That is exactly what I want to do... just that it only saves them as Targa files and there are no options to change the file compression or format. I'm looking for 3rd party software that will do the same thing but with more options

Sorry I missed that in your original post. I really should learn to read some day.

Since nobody else has given you the advice you want so far, I think I ran into something a while back about using the Intensity Pro with virtualdub, which has the ability to record screenshots. You might try looking for information about using virtualdub and the Intensity Pro with Google or another search engine of your choice.

Yeah, it's the "takes up too much room" part that I find hard to believe...

I mean, 10,000 stills of Uncompressed 1080 targa RGB files at 6MB a pop is still only 60GB! What is the harm or inconvenience of saving a project as targas and then at the end of the project batch converting to PNG or JPG or something?

    Scott

edit: Even if it's 8MB each, that's still only 80GB.

This LINK even has a freeware batch TGA->PNG converter...
