    It's in the camcorder, at least according to this article.

    The article goes on to explain that "DV capture" is a misnomer, that a DV with Firewire is data transmission. No capture is going on.

  2. Yes, that is correct; camcorders come with codecs already. And that firewire does NOT capture, but transfer the compressed video file from tape to your HD. Firewire is a PORT.

    But then, keep in mind that a computer is a DUMB machine, it won't do anything unless you tell it what to do (sounds like LEMMINGS). The video files transferred to your harddrive would just be like a deadfile, unless you use a codec to decode them to useful video. And you need to do this if you want to 'play with' your transferred video.

    Any ideas why the color is better on the Dazzle than with the Sony analog passthrough? ...both being played with Media Player?
