  1. I’ve searched this site for answers and found nothing close to my problem. I also see that while DVD Slideshow questions appear in several sections, most of the posts seem to be in this section so I’ve listed my problem here. Please let me know if this is the wrong place.

I’m trying to get DVD Slideshow GUI working on my computer and have run into problems. I download and run programs fairly frequently but don’t know computer language, programming, etc. I have never encountered this problem before using my current system.

I downloaded DVD Slideshow GUI (DVDsGUI0958.exe) from the VideoHelp site. I then ran the install with all boxes checked for the add-on components except Imgburn which I already have. I start the install and immediately get the error: “Errors sending request. A connection with the server could not be established” when the install tries to access the Video Help server (174.133.216.234).

When I UNcheck all the add-on component boxes and run the install it seems to install fine however the application slideshow then gets error messages when I try to make a slideshow due “I assume” to the fact that the other programs were not loaded and installed.

This is the only server that I have this issue with. Subsequent to downloading and running this application I did multiple downloads and similar installs from other servers and have not had a problem.

I’ve done many downloads and install attempts of this program with the same result. I turned off all firewalls, pop up blockers, etc and still got the error. I ran Spybot, malware and virus scans and everything reported clean. I tried a clean boot and ran the install with the same results. I’ve tried the install with only one of each component boxes checked to try and isolate which component may be causing the problem and they all individually resulted in the same error. I’ve tried the install using Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer with the same error.

I used the component names listed on the DVD Slideshow GUI install to download and install those components on my computer individually (no errors reported on install) however when I then tried to make a slideshow I got other errors (MPEG2 errors, missing file errors, etc).

I have no idea why I’m getting this error on this Server only and not any others. My guess would be that there is some setting in my computer that is causing the error but if that were the case I can't imagine why it would occur with this server only and not any others. I’d appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you.

    the author states -
It comes as an installer with all the nessesary files included.
it shouldn't need to d.l. anything else. have you tried running the installer as "admin"? maybe install into a folder other than c:/program files, win7 can be picky about those 2.

you could try leaving a message in the development thread for the author.

  3. Aedipuss,

Thanks for your reply. I'll try the folder option and see what happens. I did log in as admin and tried it but got same error. I'm running an XP Pro machine so I don't know what the difference is with Win 7. I look into this development thread. Thanks

are you sure you have the file downloaded and not just a link to it? the file should be 24,428KB. and on some computers you need to unblock the file.

  5. The file I have is the same size as yours. Thanks for the tip ... I had not checked the unblock box. I corrected that however I still get the same error message.

  6. Mr Aedipuss,

I found out that what was causing the problem with running the install for DVD Slideshow GUI was Internet Explorer 8. I read on the net about lots of similar problems caused by IE8 and IE7 and the fix was to uninstall them and their updates. I uninstalled IE 8 and all its updates and the slideshow with all its components then installed easily. Why that affected this server and none of the others I used is a mystery to me.

Although the slideshow program installed with all its components I’m still having problems getting it to work but I’ll work on it some more to see what happens. I’ll probably do a Windows repair (or buy a Windows 7 computer) when I get time to make sure that my system is not causing the errors/problems I’m having.

    Thanks again for your help!
