    Right now I am using GE DV1 low light recording sucks. What is the best camcorder under $250 I am looking for something with good video quality image stabilization & decent low light recording something I transfer video to my computer what do you recommend??

    You need aperture control and "image stabilization".

    Lighting and a tripod

  3. Good low light performance starts with a large objective lens. And big optics requires a big body. You will never get good low light performance from a compact device like your GE DV1 and its tiny lens.

    Myself, I use a DSLR for video because it can benefit from the lens, not only for low light, but every other aspect like optical zoom, and shallow DOF. Plus, I get high quality stills that no camcorder could come close to. At a $1000 price point all my bases are covered.

    With a budget of $250, you might as well get a $100 Kodak Playsport camcorder, and spend the extra $150 on a tripod and light. At least you'll be moving up to HD, from what you have now.

    Isn't a lightly used Canon HDV-HV20 down to around $300 now?

    I am looking at getting the Kodak ZX5 from the videos I have seen on youtube low light is pretty good but the there is a yellowish orange tint.

    That's because the white balance was set wrong. It's a good camera. I have a Playsport, and I like it.

    How is the audio with the ZX5 I have heard it sucks can you get a external mic & use it with it

    If you check ebay I've seen them for around $300.
    I got the Canon HV20 when they 1st came out about 3 yrs ago and paid $1000 + for it and a case. I have been very pleased with it. I get real good results with video.
