easycap driver installation and use

I also bought easycap on ebay. The installation has not been straightforward. We're directed to plug in the hardware on the USB port, and then insert the CD. The MS install wizard does come up and, after going thru the Nexts, it looks like it installs--there is a syntek STK1150 service installed and running. Also, there is an stk1150 device listed in windows explorer. However, here's where it gets confusing. There's an autorun wizard that comes up with "Install DVR" as an option. When you click that option, another install wizard comes up for stk 1160 grabber. When you complete stk 1160 grabber install, you look under hardware properties "Sound and Video game controllers" as directed, "stk 1160 grabber" is listed, not "STK1160 ATV BDA." The instructions say if "STK1160 ATV BDA" is not listed, it's not installed. Also, after that second install, the stk1150 device is no longer listed in windows explorer.

Can anyone enlighten me? Some tips on use would help. I'm trying to convert 8mm tapes to DVD. There are few clear operational instructions.

If not, you could try the same method with other drivers. I can't promise that any of these will help, and as always, virus scan the downloads before installing.

Tips: I haven't done it myself but as a member of this website, I have read about and seen plenty of examples of problems that crop up during transfers. It is frequently not possible to convert analog tapes to digital and get a good result using just a capture card.

Consider having any tapes that are especially important to you transferred professionally. Doing it yourself without the right equipment will most likely take a lot of work and yield results that don't look nearly as good as the original tapes. Though I haven't used them, this site http://www.digitalfaq.com/services/video-conversion-tape-to-dvd.htm offers such a service.

Will you be capturing 8mm tapes using an analog camcorder or a digital one to play the tape? If it is digital and you can't get anywhere using an EasyCap, you might be able to get the video onto a PC in DV format using fire wire. However, I can't promise the resulting video will be problem-free using this method either. I actually found out that the drivers might not work roperly if you enable win7 updates. If u already updated its too late. I hope this fixes someones problem
