Boy if I had an ipad this would be the first app I'd buy!

Finally I have a reason to consider getting one..... (no not really but if I did it would be really modded out to the max with this )
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

    Wow that is some endorsement!

Do you see it as a light laptop replacement then? Not for serious computing use but email and video playback use, that sort of thing?

  8. I have not booted up my family room laptop since I got my ipad 2
I use mine for just about everything I did with my laptop.
    Remote Desktop
    Pay bills
    Watch movies/tv shows
    Play some pretty cool games
    Read books

I think the ipad's biggest downfall is the lack of flash.
    Second worst thing is printing.
Third would be because it's made by Apple and you have to conform to the Apple eco-system

If I wouldn't have gotten it for almost free, I would have gone with a Android Tablet instead.

The Star Trek app has some of the worst reviews I've ever seen.
It was a shoddy money grab from CBS, apparently.

After reading about it, I decided to not buy it.

Too bad. Sounded like a great idea.

@stiltman - sounds like it really is a laptop replacement. Sans pc gaming and video capture/encoding on the right laptop of course.

Why wouldn't they make printing easy with the ipad? Do they want you to print to some special apple printer? Or is it they don't want you printing from it at all and force you to go through all kinds of hoops to get it working?

Printing IS easy with the iPad provided you have an AirPrint compatible printer on your network. Otherwise you have to install the AirPrint service on a random PC in the house and share the printer over the network to the iPad. I've done the latter and once its setup, it works well.

Yes, and what apps can you print from *natively*?
Yeah, you'd think you could print out your calendar...yeah
Print screen, save pict, print pict of screen.....what a joke

Yes I had to install Bonjour and then register it as a service and then install Airprint on my computer, just to print pictures.

There are a slew of printing apps, and you guessed it, not free after printing a flippin test page

I copy, paste to notes, email it to myself, and then print from a real printer.
iPad is useless for anything outside the pad itself.
External storage, video output, printing, etc -- all useless, all crap, use a laptop instead.

You can Dropbox to/from yourself (or fuss with iTunes, which I hate).
    And then email yourself.
That's the extent of iPad I/O, to be honest.

Tablets are for reading and watching -- not to replace a notebook, iPod, etc.
    To some extent, some games.

I bought the iPad to sit in a recliner, on my couch, on my beanbag, at the dining table, or even lay in bed.
Then I could read digital stuff without getting leg, back, neck and ass aches in office chairs.

    WOW, me agreeing with Lordsmurf....LOL
    However, I agree 100%

I have the 16gb ipad2. Really, I bought it for road trips. My car DVD player was acting up, and I got tired of fixing it. I figured i could get an ipad2 to play movies and MORE for my son.

So for our next vacation, he has 15 movies, 10+ books, 10+ educational (math, reading) apps, and a slew of games. I also got the camera kit and a 32gb SD card. I loaded the card with PG-13 and R movies for myself. It's not the prettiest way for extra storage, but it will do.
