  1. I capture from Pinnacle and i use MJPEC codec and yes I need to use it as i dont have much space.

Now, suggestion, do u think it is better for me to save it as uncompressed avi using Pinnacle after editing the video and then later, let VirtualDub compress it or should in Pinnacle I do it right away, selecting the codec.

Cause I dont know if it really matters, I just thought that VirtualDub might do a better job in compressing avi.

    Anybody has thoughts about this>

  2. Why don't you register an MJPEG codec from Main Concept, PicVideo, or Morgan Multimedia? VirtualDub works with them. Morgan Multimedia seems to have some quality advantages but the other two are a smidge faster during encode.

  3. In general, Vitual Dub is better as for compression. For some reason Pinnacle Studio takes more than twice the time than VD to encode in e.g. DivX. I would say best way is to save the edited video in "same as project" (Pinnacle DV/MJPEG codec, depending on your way of capture). That doesn't take all too long time, and then the edited video is easy to convert in VD!

This is the way I do it!

    To FredThompson:
Virtual Dub also works with the Pinnacle MJPEG/DV codec, so that would be a sollution to an entirely different question, namely if conversion was to be done in TMPGenc, which can not use the Pinnacle codec. For this I find MM great! I imagine next question being: "Why not capture/edit in VD?" -Because there are many more edit features in Studio.

    Hope I helped!?!

  4. Oh, I thought the question was basically about file size. Yeah, you sure do get a lot better editing with Pinnacle stuff than VirtualDub.
