HELP? - Need to record and broadcast digital video simultaneously.

I'm volunteering at a play this week as a tech assistant. I have two missions:

1. Record the play using a provided HD Digital Camcorder.

2. Find a way to broadcast video from my recording location to a room in the same building where the cast will be preparing. This is so they can see what the current scene of the play is and cue themselves for entry to the stage. Hard wires will not be a possible medium by which to transmit the signal.

I have access to lots of professional video equipment and what I don't have I can probably get.

So far I was thinking of doing something really crude and easy like recording the video independently and then having a separate video feed for the cast. To accomplish this I would simply employ a laptop webcam to send a signal to another computer which will output video via HDMI to a small 1080p TV (employing the building's local wireless network).

Anything else I should consider or improve to make the experience easier for me or better for the cast and crew?

What camcorder are you using? Most have analog (composite, S-Video or component) and/or HDMI outputs for monitoring. Just run a 75 ohm composite coax to the other room. Audio from the camcorder would be more difficult depending on cable length required. What cable length do you need?

If instead you wanted to uplink to the net live while recording, the best solution is an HDV (with Firewire) camcorder which will be excepted by most streaming software. HDMI uncompressed solutions are much more complicated and expensive.

Thank you for replying, and thank you for the technical correction. I believe I'll be using a Sony HDR-SR12. I'm almost certain that it has some kind of analogue output. I've also been in touch with one of the building's regular technical consultants and he's informed me that there is video wired from the main hall to most of the major appendage rooms including the one the cast will be using. It seems I just need to head over and see what standard it is and find a way to make my output compatible. There apparently is a hub of some kind at a major place in the viewing area that will provide an input for a video feed.

The HDR-SR12 comes with a composite A/V output cable.
