Burned a DVD+RW (using Philips DVD+RWD01). It will play on my computer as if it were a normal DVD(using Power DVD). But my regular home DVD player won't recognize it.

My home DVD Player is Toshiba SD6200(new in past 2yrs). It will read VCD, but not these DVD+RW?

I thought DVD+RW were in the same format as regular DVD's and would play on any DVD player?

    Help.

    Thanks

  2. None of the DVD writeable formats are "exactly" the same as the prerecorded DVDs you buy in the store. The question boils down to which standalone players support which writeable formats. DVD-Rs supposedly are supported by the most players - something in the 80% to 95% range depending on the source. DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW have lower compatibility counts. I've seen figures anywhere from 35% to 80% for those types, so it's hard to know who to believe.

Here's a good article on the subject. The author at least lists which players he tried in coming up with his compatibility stats (on page 8 of the review).
