  1. Hello
    Any suggestions?

    What I did:
I just converted a Hauppage HD PVR recording that was 85 minutes long to DVD format Mpeg2. the 1080i to DVD took 40+ minutes to do. Target size as single layer DVD. Imgburn to burn of course. No filtering. It most likely would have taken longer if it wasn't mostly B&W. If the run time was longer I'd most likely set target size as Dual-Layer DVD.

Using the TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress encoder. I'm watching the resulting DVD on a 42" older Sony Plasma right now and it looks good. Any suggestions that might get a better result. I did choose always de-interlace in the encoder, So I guess maybe I did do light filtering?

TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 so 4:3 menu despite 16:9 video. That's alright though since I always set a movie to play and auto-repeat when it is only one title.

I'm not sure why I'm asking as it looks OK, however I'm always seeking better methods and results.

    Thanks
    RT

    Just for fun

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

  2. Just as a followup I decided I wasn't happy with that encode as it didn't seem completely fluid so I did another one last night not de-interlacing and it looks better. It also took 20 minutes longer.

Why not import the video file as is into TDA? Then you can edit, add menus, etc.

By not re-encoding, you should maintain the quality of the original.

If it ends up larger than a DVD-5 disc, you can shrink it or run it through DVD-RB.

Oops - wrong version of TDA - versions 1.5 or 1.6 cannot import .avi files.

TDA 3.0 (which I have) can and does.

    Good luck.
