  1. Hello all.

    I shot a project on 24p, 1280 x 720.

I had someone downconvert the file to 720 x 480 mpeg 2 and he made a dvd. The dvd plays back great and the video is anamorphic. I did not have the mpeg 2 file, so...

I ripped the DVD and extracted an mpeg 2 dvd compliant file.

I wanted to do some effects with the file in Sony Vegas. After doing so, Sony Vegas gives me the option of saving with or without letterbox. Letterbox gives me bars on the top and bottom, which I do NOT want.

Unchecking the 'save with letterbox' option saves it with the image at 4x3 looking square vs. rectangular, as it was with the ripped/converted mpeg2 file when I saw it in the Sony Vegas preview screen.

On a burned DVD, the file will be stretched out on my stand alone dvd player when played back on my hdtv, but will be "square" when played back on my PC's dvd player and software.

How do I tell Sony Vegas to keep the exact same peramaters as the original file?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Use the dvd architect 16:9 widescreen template when exporting . Make sure your project settings are set to 16:9 widescreen , and the clip is interpreted as 16:9 as well (right click clip in the clip bin and check the pixel aspect ratio)

You can also fix it , after the fact (if you don't want to re-encode it), by using dvd patcher or restream

    As A Side Note:

DVDA is a royal PIA. Just when you thought you had all the settings just right, after the burn you have probably a 50% chance of getting what you "thought" you wanted because it re-encodes the source if not in prefect spec. It's a crap shoot.

make sure to click on options in the vegas rendering dialog and select 16/9 as the aspect ratio and click the box to stretch video do not letterbox.

  5. Thanks all.

DVDA, even though I put in the proper settings, wouldn't render correctly.

But when I ran DVD Patcher, it solved the problem, and, no re-encoding and loss of quality.

    Thanks!
