Are there desired features missing in Vegas Pro that you think would be found in another NLE? (Unless your experience is with demos alone, this could end up being a costly switch.) You mentioned Final Cut Pro; are you planning to edit on a Mac?

Unless we know more about your needs and preferences, it's difficult to address your request. It's kind of like you're asking if a Black & Decker hammer is better than a Craftsman hammer. The Pro versions of most NLEs will do pretty much the same sorts of tasks. Variations involve user interfaces and how they integrate with other software.

Try the demos for each and form your own opinion.

Of your list, Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro have the same chief designer and follow a similar UI philosophy. Vegas attacks the same Pro user type with a novel UI. Not on your list is AVID that is focused on long form fine cut editorial and less on effects editing.

Cyberlink PD and Corel VS (also Adobe Elements and Pinnacle Studio) are targeted at non-pro newbies.

If you want to learn something new, try learning the inner workings of Vegas and how each of the filters and effects work and what they are good for, then learn about compositing and masking, then learn how to animate, mask, and apply effects using keyframes, then you will realize that Vegas Pro is much more capable than you previously thought.

    P.S. I despise Sony.

Sony bought the Sonic Foundry products long after Vegas was released. Fortunately, the Madison WI development team was left semi-independent to extend the product line. Even support is done from Wisconsin.

Right, it's "Made in America". So at least the English in the manual makes sense. And it's actually built as a native Windows App unlike a "Macromedia" interface, like Adobe and Magix where you feel like you're in a "virtual window" resource hogg.

I was a long time Premiere user but switched to Vegas for stability, multi-instance and network shared rendering. Vegas is rock solid and fast. I still use Premiere Pro for heavy layered graphics mostly because I'm used to it and it is more tightly integrated with other Adobe products. I also use Final Cut for Apple centric projects.

  9. well I am not unsatisfied with the vegas but as everyone knows video editing require huge leaning curve that's why I started with vegas, have done alot in it but before giving it too much time I just want to make sure that I am spending my time on a good editor. So everyone is suggesting that i should stick to it?

Yes. For the money, there's probably nothing more stable. Like edDV, I've been a longtime Premiere user--and still use it for various reasons specific to my applications--but quite frankly, Vegas is the best bang for the buck these days.

I know what you're feeling, like stuck, right? You've reached a certain level and can't get past it. But the grass is not greener elsewhere. Wherever you go, there you are.

Try to do something creative, outside the box. Become Jackson Pollack.
