Is there dynamic range compression in the VLC player? How is it activated and controlled? Thanks!

	Yes, I second that wish. I often watch video in a noisy environment, and this is sometime excruciating to have to change the volume all the time...

	Settings -> Preferences 
 
 Tick Advanced Options in the bottom right corner
 
 Then go to Audio -> Filters -> Volume Normalizer

	Thanks for the hint, but I'm looking for DRC and not volume normalization (which is quite different, and doesn't suit my needs).

 I also found out, that what I am looking for may be "automatic gain control" actually... Still looing into it.

	AGC is realtime and evil IMO. Too much pumping. 
 
 I think what you want is "audio compression" which in the audio context means dynamic range compression, not bit rate compression. All AM raadio stations rely on dynamic range compression.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
