  1. hello i just got my first blu ray player and now im trying to get into making ghetto bd rips on dvd to save some money. So far my results have been mixed. The first one i did was a success and my second wasn't. Both mkv's were 720p h.264 codec and High@ 4.1 1280 with ac3 audio at 384kbps. I muxed the mkvs with tsmuxer being sure to set output to bluray and burned to standard dvd with imgburn setting to udf and 2.50. Like i said the first one worked and the second disc has no video ( audio only) any ideas whats going on ? my blu ray player is a magnavox nb500mg9

If you are ripping your own BDs then this should not be a problem, as all you have to do is resize the source to 720p (1280 x 720), re-encode to fit, author as AVCHD and burn with Imgburn.

if you are using downloaded source then the image has probably been cropped to remove letterbox bars, and is no longer compliant. this means that the bars have to be added back in, and the video re-encoded, then authored, then burned.

MultiAVCHD or AVCHDCoder will do all this for you.

You can't resize with mkvmerge - you have to re-encode. The resize component of MultiAVCHD has been released as a standalone module called UncropMKV. This will add back the bars that have been removed and give you a legit 720p resolution. Allow a few hours for the re-encode though.

  6. i changed it to 1280x720 and remuxed and burned etc.. still no video, only audio. this stuff is so complex i dont know if i can do it. Im great with computers but video editing has so many variables !

sorry i didnt see your post before i wrote the above, i will try the program you suggested. one question though why did the guy that i got the vid from destroy the integrity of the vid in the first place i dont understand. gonna go re encode this sucker but man i hate re encoding its like watching paint dry.

    Taking it very slowly

    1. Your video must be 1280 x 720. if it is not, the video will not display correctly, if at all
    2. The only way to get the resolution back to 1280 x 720 is to add the black bars that were cropped off
    3. To add back the black bars, the video must be re-encoded
    4. You can use UncropMKV to add back the black bars and re-encode the video for you
    or
    5. You can use MultiAVCHD (which includes UncropMKV) or AVCHDCoder to add back the bars, re-encode and author an AVCHD disc ready for burning with Imgburn

TSMuxer does not re-encode, so you video must be compliant before you use TXMuxer. UncropMKV will make it compliant.

  8. uncropmkv seems to be a no go, i get an error stating "the video height is not compliant"

What, exactly, are you doing ?

Better yet, download and install AVCHDCoder and use that instead. It will do everything for you - re-size, re-encode and author ready for burning.

Just get MultiAVCHD, read the tutorial for good info and instruction, and make sure you put a check in the box "Auto set transcode for non-compliant titles" under the "Settings" tab in the left pane.
