    If I buy a blu-ray DVD movie, can I back up to a standard DVD with the regular DVD burner?

    I guess you have a blu-ray reader and you mean blu-ray movie...

    Yes, you can backup the blu-ray to a "blu-ray/avchd on dvd" with for example bdrebuilder. It will work on some standalone blu-ray players but no dvd players.

    And yes, you can also backup blu-ray and convert it to a dvd-video that works on all dvd players....but no hd then and you will lose all menus.
