Personally, I have yet to find a reason to do anything with Roxio other than use the disc as a coaster.

What is the source footage ? Mini-DV, Mpeg-2 (DVD), HD ?
What are you going to output to ? DVD, Bluray/AVC HD ?
Do you want to do overlays (text etc for scores/dates) ?

Womble Mpeg Video Wizard is a dedicated, smart rendering mpeg-2 editor. Easy to use, does basic titles and transitions, and only re-encodes the bits you alter.

I use Adobe Premiere for this. The output is always quite nice.

While I use the full professional CS3 version, you can get away with Elements for under $100.

Or save a few bucks (half price?) and get the so-called "old version" which is not inferior in any way:

I prefer to buy boxed versions, because downloads have a way of disappearing sometimes. Like hard drive crashes, caused by lightning strikes! Discs don't disappear as easily.

You can get a free trial from the Adobe site: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=premiere_elements&loc=en_us

While I really do like Womble software, and use it daily, I would suggest it's not the proper tool for advanced editing needed for a highlight reels. Womble software is for basic cutting/re-arranging, not adding any kinds of titles and non-cheesy transition effects, mixing in photos, etc. (With all due respect to guns1inger, whose advice I often find to be spot-on.)

    Good luck!

  9. I think he means to spotlight a person in the video. That can be done in Premiere Elements.
