Hi everyone. I brought an Inspiron 560 that has a hdmi port on the back of it. I would like to buy a cable that I can attach to hdmi port of the pc then attach it to my tv so I can watch videos on my television. The problem is that I do not have a HD tv. I have three ports--composite, s-video, and component. My tv doesn't have a hdmi port. My dvr from comcast has a hdmi port. Is there any cable or converter that I can buy that will work. Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated. mary

If you don't have component output on your player your options are limited. I don't know if there are any hdmi to component adapters. if there are they are probably pricey and I would imagine not as good as either connection.

Is it a bluray or dvd player? There are countless dvd players that have component output for near high def upconverting. I am sure there are just as many bluray players that have component output as well.

My suggestion is to get a hold of a player that has component outputs to go to your component input. That is honestly as good as you can get with your setup. I wouldn't trust a hdmi to component converter. There may be some out there and they may work but its always easiest and best to use the actual connections and not trust a converter.

  3. HDMI to analog video adapters are pretty expensive. Pictures at Dell show only VGA and HDMI on that computer. Don't bother with the simple VGA to video converter cables -- those are for specific devices which have s-video or composite video at the VGA connector. Your computer probably doesn't have that. You could try a VGA to s-video scan converter. But a new graphics card with component/s-video/composite out will be cheaper.
