It is safer to make region-free backups of the DVD discs you own.

Procedure to change region code of your DVD
    Portable

    1. Power ON the DVD player and do not insert DISC inside player

    2. Setup Prefer
    Press (next) -> (previous) -> (next) -> (previous) -> (next) -> (next) -> (previous)
The LCD display showed the existing region Code.

    3. Press (navigation up) or (navigation
down) repeatedly to select the number from 0
    to 6.

    Region Codes:
    0 - Region Free
    1 - USA
    2 - EUROPE
    3 - ASIA PACIFIC
4 - AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, LATAM
    5 - RUSSIA, INDIA

  7. I've just bought a PD9012/37 at Best Buy in U.S., it was region 1 and now is 0 (unlocked), I hope it works for you too, please let me know.

1- Turn on the device with no disc
2- Open the tray and leave it open
    3- Press the Setup button
4- Navigate to the Prefer menu (all you have to do is press 3 times the right navigation button on the front of the device, nothing else)
5- Press (next) -> (previous) -> (next) -> (previous) -> (next) -> (next) -> (previous) (Make sure you DO THIS USING THE BUTTONS ON TOP OF THE DEVICE right next to the setup button)
6- Now you can use the navigation buttons UP and DOWN to select the region you desire. (Remember 0 is region free so I recommend you use it.)
    7- Press OK to confirm

    Region Codes:
    0 - Region Free
    1 - USA
    2 - EUROPE
    3 - ASIA PACIFIC
4 - AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, LATAM
    5 - RUSSIA, INDIA
    6 - CHINA

Any questions feel free to ask

    Thanks matbr.

Just to head off the inevitable posts that say "I unlocked my player with those instructions and now my US discs won't play", please note that some region 1 DVDs use something called RCE to prevent region free DVD players from playing the discs. Simply reset your unlocked player to region 1 if you have trouble playing region 1 DVDs after unlocking the player. You can change the region as often as you want.

Assuming those instructions work, I would recommend than anyone who unlocks it NOT ever apply firmware updates to the player. Those have been known to break region free mode.

Sure I can Help I just unlocked mine today !!! And it's a PD9012/37 from philipps
    The procedure is very simple.
You don't even need to go to the menu pref or whatever.

    It's actually as follow :

    - turn on your Portable DVD player without any disc to obtain the blue screen
    - Then with the arrow keys in front and at the bottom of the main screen press the sequence as follow : "UP', "Down", "Up", "Down", "Up", "Up", "Down"
    - Then you will have a screen telling the version that you have and at the bottom it says "region 1"
    - Just use the arrows again to change it until you got "Region 0" and then press "Ok" (the play button in the middle of arrows), that's it !!!

In that process, remember that you just have to use the arrows in the front of the screen at the bottom and at the end the button "OK". Nothing else. Good luck !!!
