I dont know if anyone tried this before, but I got a Japanese sample DVD with some movie fragments and also a DTS DVD audio track from QUEEN : "The Prophet's Song". I would like to rip this audiotrack and burn it on a separate CDR. If i saw it correctly, the vob file is 100mb, so that is small enough for a CDR.
Does anyone know if its possible to simply rip it with Smartripper and can I burn it in DVD format on a CDR then? If so, how?
Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

just ripp it using a DVD Ripper then open it with DVD2AVI save it as an avi then convert it 2 wave with TMPGenc or whatever, burn 2 a cd. Simple as that.

Check the guides elsewhere on this site, you'll find some help there but put simply. here's what I do.
Use Smartripper to identify the correct VOB.
Chose to extract just the audio stream instead of ripping the entire VOB file. You may have to rip the stereo or AC3 stream as I don't know if Smartripper can extract DTS audio streams.
Use one of the freely available conversion programs to convert the AC3 audio to WAV. I don't think there yet exists any software to convert a DTS audio track to WAV due to tougher licensing but I may be wrong.
Burn using your normal burning software.
Check out this site plus also http://www.doom9.org for all the help a freeware you need. -
But I dont want an ordinairy stereo file, I want DTS!
I already got that some multiple times on CD and vinyl because I'm
a Queen fan. But I want that DTS version on a CDR.
Reading your mail I guess thats not possible. Is there no way to
burn that vob file on CDR? It fits easily, its only 100mb!
Can I make a datacd of it with the vobfile and then select it in the menu which appears, just like selecting mp3's on my dvd-player? -
No, not possible directly if all you want is the full DTS multichannel audio. VOB files are multiplexed audio/video files, menu files etc. etc. The DVD disc structure consists of menus, picture files, audio files and video files all converted to VOB format, and then a few other files like an IFO file that tells your DVD player how to navigate the disc.
If you just drag the VOB file to a blank CD you would end up with just a CD that happens to have a VOB file on itl. Your DVD player or PC would not know how to navigate the disc. DVD format on a CD is know as miniDVD and 95% of all current DVD players will NOT play it anyway.
You would have to rip the audio to a seperate DTS audio stream. You would then have to import just the DTS audio file into a DVD authoring package that supports DTS audio, author essentially a DVD video disc with your audio track as the first play item (leave the video track blank). Only top end DVD authoring packages import audio files without video, and even less support DTS. The most expensive version of DVDit does (over 1000 dollars) but all of the budget packages from MyDVD to Uleads DVD Movie Factory DO NOT support DTS or even AC3 audio.
Most authoring packages will not accept you trying to create an audio only VOB file however, they will create a blank video track that still takes up space or insist you also import a video file of the same length.
It looks like you are out of luck without spending a fortune I'm afraid. -
What's wrong with leaving it on the DVD? You won't be able to play a CD with DTS audio on it in anything but a forgiving DVD player anyway...

IF your stand alone will play mini-dvd's ( i'm assuming your gona use a stand alone cauz i know of no cd audio player that would handle dts anyway ).
Use smart ripper to remove the vob containing the part with the dts track.
use ifoedit to resync the vob file and create a inf file.
burn useing nero in udf/ifo format ( you need VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS ) ...
the only catch .. their is no way to strip out the video that i know of because i dont know of a way to get the DTS back into a vob or a format that is recordable. ( please let me know if anyone has a way i really could use it ) ... anyway check out

BTW i tested this with 1 chapter of bones and it works in my apex-730 ( with mini-dvd firmware patch ) .. not only did i get the ac3 DD and the DTS but also got the directors comments .. a nice supprize :D

DTS CDs are possible.
I only know the general process and not any of the specifics, but it involves putting a DTS encoded audio in the PCM WAV tracks on a CD. There used to be a guide at www.labdv.com but I see that it is now behind a login/password. Try doing a Google search...
Such discs will play in glorious DTS audio on most DVD players with a DTS decoder but won't play properly (digital noise) on most analogue CD players.

thanks ppl for all the info, I'll see what I can do.
To clearify things a bit for some people here:
The DTS track I want to copy is just a DTS-audio track, so no video attached, just a menu with Queen logo and a play-button.
I want to copy it on CD so that friends of mine can listen to the song too,
the sample DVD is namely very hard to get and I think I might be the only person in the Netherlands who has it -
hmmm.. have to give it another try.
I tried a standard CD with just the AC3 track from a music DVD, made a miniDVD and my Pioneer player just spat it out. Your DVD player would still have to support the miniDVD format which the vast majority of brand names do not for it to work. Apex and a number of the cheaper brands do but generally the more expensive ones do not although they are adding it all the time.
