Please Help... Audio and Video in movie (avi) get out of sync!!

Ok this is a really simple problem but I'm very new to this stuff so please bare with me.

I have a divx (avi) movie file, plays in the DivX Player. It plays fine up to a certain "point" in the movie.

At this "point", the movie's audio and video get out of sync.

I know exactly at what point (time) in the movie they get out of sync, and I know the difference between the audio and video lag ... it is 4.5 seconds (audio is 4.5 seconds before it's video) and this time difference remains constant throughout the rest of the movie till the end. I also know the fps of the movie file (23.976023976024, if that matters).

So, just to re-clarify, its not like the mis-sync is there from the beginning of the movie, and it doesn't "gradually" get out of sync throughout the course of the movie either. It gets out of sync at a specific point and the difference that the audio is ahead of the video remains constant till the end.

So is there any way I can fix this and sync the audio and video back together as they were in the beginning of the movie?

I really appreciate this and really apologize if this has been asked before, but I just can't seem to find the answer. Thank you very much in advance.

I would open the AVI file in VirtualDub, select Video -> Direct Stream Copy mode, mark the first part (up until the audio problem) and save that as an AVI. Then mark the second part, adjust the audio skew (Audio -> Interleave), and save it as a second AVI file.
