    Hey all,

When I use the Windows Surround tester, each effect plays on the proper channel. When I play a DVD, each channel works properly. However, when I use Soft Encode to create an AC-3, the playback results in no sound from my Surrounds. Before encoding, if I test the left or right Surrounds, they play on the left and right Fronts. This didn't used to be a problem. Even just yesterday all was well.

    Can someone help?

    Thanks,

    Justin

Unfortunately, yes. I'm using Sonic Foundry's Soft Encode, 1.0... (did they ever advance past 1.0?).
I'm dealing with Insomnia, so I'll try this EncWAVtoAC3 and report back.
    Thanks for replying

Crap. I'm getting the same results
Not to mention that I need to read whatever documentation is included, as the channels aren't playing in the proper order. The order is supposed to be FL, C, FR, SL, SR, LFE.
I attached the AC-3, in case you need it as a reference

This is too strange. For me it plays FR, FL, C, SL?, SR?, LFE. I don't understand how to solve this one

There doesn't seem to be any documentation. Sh*t!

    (pardon, but I'm very frustrated)

In the case that you haven't given up on me, attached is a zip containing 3 tests. Don't worry, they're even shorter than before. They work fine up until the surrounds. I encoded them to play in the following order: FL, C, FR, SL, SR, LFE. When it gets to the surrounds, the SL plays in the front-left and the SR plays in the front-right. It's the same for me with all 3 tests.
The first two tests are "Soft Encode"d. The first test is at 48khz and the second at 44khz. The last test is the "WAV to AC3 Encoder". With that one I have no clue what pretty much any of the settings are, as I just left them at "Auto".
