Today I encoded a FRAPS video to .m4v in Handbrake (720p H264 3Mbps 2-pass AAC audio). The video came out perfectly, no sync issues or choppiness.

HOWEVER, when I uploaded it onto youtube....... youtube stretches the video length from 5mins to 10mins... then destroys it by making it completely out of sync & choppy as hell. (even the audio stutters like crazy)

I know for sure this isn't my internet's fault, because I can view other ppl's HD videos just fine.

Why is it doing this? I still have the original on my computer which runs completely fine.

.m4v should be a video only file. if it has video and audio the correct container is .mp4 maybe you messed up the encoding settings. use mediainfo in text mode and copy and paste the output from the source and output files.

  4. Your framerate is VFR - variable frame rate. I don't think youtube understands VFR

Indeed YouTube has some known issues using VBR, which are covered pretty extensively in their forums http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?hl=en&tid=2c2b22ee0ffa7463

A subsequent search of "audio sync" revealed a lot of reports about variable bit rate for audio being the usual culprit, ultimately making older uploads to the site lose sync. I'm having a similar problem and am trying to find a solution which makes Hnadbrake covert the video at a Constant bit rate.
