Hi All,
I've finally had some time for a major update (i.e., new features, not just bug fixes) of MKVtools. I know that there are a few users out there, so I thought I'd see if there are any requests. I've already added some of the most commonly requested features I've received via e-mail:
You'll find all this in the latest beta. Your old registration code will still work for this beta and the final update. Any feedback (emmgunnbeta@gmail.com) would be appreciated. There is a lot of rewritten code so I'm sure there are still a lot of bugs
- You can now "burn" external subtitle files into the output.
- MKVtools now accepts any type of video file that mencoder can process (avi, mp4, ... but not VIDEO_TS folders). So you can, for example, now burn srt subtitles into an avi file.
- Improved presets in a "Quick Conversion" box with one button conversions where MKVtools guesses at the best settings for the selected output hardware (DivX DVD players, iPod, Apple TV, PS3 for now).
.
Soon to come:
So you don't need to request any of the above. If you would like to see anything else added while I have this window of time available for programming, let me know either in a post or at emmgunnbeta@gmail.com. I'll just be tallying the requests, so unless I need clarification you probably won't hear back from me. Cheers and thanks in advance if you take the time to send feedback regarding the beta.
- Improved/expanded preferences (save directory, font color, ...)
- Improved handling of aspect ratios
- The most commonly requested, but not sure when/if it will happen feature - 5.1 audio conversion.

emm, I'm sending you one that always seems to get me the most lately:
--processing .mkv files that the video file is encoded with h.263 /h.264,
and mencoder seems to give up on. On those i usually can get VLC to play it,
and I just do a "hijack" (capture) using iSquint to get a DV stream file
that I can then reencode with Visualhub to avi.

If you can figure out someway to get mkvtools to handle these
types of files ( I try to avoid them when I can, but sometimes have no choice)
that would be all I need. Maybe set it so that if it detects the codec is h.263 / h.264
it switches to a "process with Quicktime" and if Perian is installed it will handle it?
I can get the .mkv to load in QT 7.5.5 with Perian 1.2.1 installed ( albiet slowly to load, but
once in, it plays back fine.)

Ps. let me know if I need to send you a problem file. Going to get the beta now...Last edited by terryj; 16th Apr 2010 at 09:35. "Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

	Hi Terry,
Go ahead and send me a problem file or send me a rapidshare/megaupload link to one, and I'll take a look at it.
-
I had several but happened to purge them after I had last
hijacked them using iShowU. I'll try and get you one
this week."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
