I use Ulead Video Studio 6.
I'm happy. Nice transitions (Hollywod effects) and nice picture. Music.

Go to: http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm to see specifications.

    Good luck.
    Bye

When you make "still picture VCDs" you can use high resolutions like 704x480/576 but not have any transitions.

If you want transitions you MUST make a video slideshow(encode to mpg) and can ONLY use 352x240/288....you could make a SVCD if you player supports it to achieve a bit higher quality(480x480/576)

  4. I like Slide Show Movie Maker 3.0, freeware for non-comercial use. Does transitions, creates .avi file from .bmp or .jpg images. Does text overlay if desired, allows you to adjust the display rate for each slide. Can use audio, but I have not tried it. I use the DivX codec in SSMM and get terrific quality. I had to download the DivX coded separately. I use tmpgenc to convert the .AVI output by SSMM to SVCD format and then I play the finished slide show on my TV.

  5. ULead picture show will certainly do a soundtrack for a slideshow... although you will not be able to skip through the pictures in that case.
It will not scale the time between pictures to match the total soundtrack length unfortunately, so you'll have to do that yourself.

A lot of people have Paint Shop Pro, but dont know it comes with a great program called "Animation Shop" which can join up all your images, and has lots of transistions, fades and a lot more. The you can save as AVI, use Vdub or TMPGEnc to add audio, http://www.jasc.com/

  7. There's a program from Starchild (down under) called BMP2AVI. It works with bmp's & jpg's. If you have different sizes you may need to crop them to the same size. Anyway it was cheap and works great. I take pics at 1600 x 1200 -> make the *.avi grab a song *.wav and make SVCD slide shows. Excellent quality. I used TMPGEnc to make the *.mpeg2 and Nero or Ulead to burn.
