  1. Hi I have honestech tv capture device, I am trying to capture my live tv signal, and i am having the following issue. When ever someone moves or something moves there is a line trail around that area. I have attached a screen shot as an example, is there anything I can do to resolve that issue in virtual dub.

    Thank you!

This is interlace. You don't want to remove it, if making DVDs or archiving the video.
See the interlacing info about halfway down this page: http://www.digitalfaq.com/guides/video/capture-understand-sources.htm

Watch it with DVD player software on the computer.
Or use VLC media player and pick a playback deinterlacer from the video options.

  5. Hi, I would like to make the video so that it would play with any program from tv or computer. There should be a way to do it, I have seen videos by other people, and they play anywhere, why cant I get it play anywhere. I have tried to play with deinterlace filter with virtual dub, it doesn't seem to work. Thank you!

Do you want a high quality video, or do you want to butcher it? Those are your only two choices.
Deinterlacing it so that it "plays anywhere" = butchering it.

The second option is to make one version for DVD, and another version for computer-only viewing.

The only other way to have progressive video is to shoot it that way with a progressive camera and NEVER have interlaced video. That may be what you saw. But that's not an option for you now. (Maybe next time.)

Making a DVD-Video will play in DVD players, and any computer with a DVD ROM/burner should have DVD player software that does the playback deinterlace. You don't want to hard-deinterlace the video -- then it will look like crap on a TV set.

Deinterlace it if you want. VD and the smart deinterlace filter work fairly well. But you will lose some quality and it won't be much good for DVD use. VLC with 'Bob' deinterlace should work fine. If not, maybe you have another problem.

  8. Hi, I have media center hooked up to my tv that will be playing my files which are stored on my computer. I also have a tv dvd recorder which has exact same issue when it records tv directly to dvd. Thank you!

Then as lordsmurf suggested, use DVD playing software (such as Power DVD) on your media center computer. Or turn deinterlacing on in whatever you are using to play DVDs.

    You're not listening.

    Either:

    1. You're butchering the video because the software is deinterlacing (i.e., you're not paying attention to the settings and just let the software "do it")

    2. The playback software is "smart" and rendering a deinterlaced version during playback. Even most modern versions of WMP will do this.

  12. Hi, I have recorded an interlaced video. 45 min, 46 gig.

When I play on vlc with deintelace, I still see the lines.
When I play with windows media player, I still see the lines.
When I play it windows media player classic, I still see the lines.
When I converted the video to dvd and play it on my tv, I still see the lines.

I don't know what to do any more.

You handled your video incorrectly somewhere along the line. You have to spell out exactly what software and settings you used. Then maybe someone can point out what you did wrong. Just looking at the VirtualDub screenshot you posted it looks like you resized the frame. That's one problem.

  14. Hi,

I am using virtualdub in capture more with no compression.
    Signal is ntsc
I set the size to 640 by 480.

If I did anything wrong, let me know, and if I should use video compression, let me know which one.

    Thank you!

What compression was used in VirtualDub?
It wasn't MPEG-2, so you did something wrong between capture and the MPEG you're playing in VLC/etc
