a couple of months ago i recorded a video file using my hp webcam and my laptop.... before i stopped the recording, it said it was 15 minutes long, so i stopped it and the result was a 4 second avi file thats 3.62 GB, it only shows the first 4 secs i tried playing it on different players, even burned it to dvd and its still only the first 4 seconds long, i want to fix it and retrieve the rest of the recording.
tried again for 21 minutes and the result is a 1.14 minutes long video file thats 5.06 GB. please dont tell me its the settings because its recorded at 320x240 at 24 fps and no audio.
thanks for reading, hope somebody can help

Try open it in virtualdub and avidemux and the save as new avi. In virtualdub choose video->direct stream copy and audio->direct stream copy.

And if it wont work give more infromation about the avi. Open it in mediainfo and post then all details here.

looks like you forgot to set a codec to save to. the results you show list uncompressed RGB. 500mbps is in the ballpark for rgb and would give you a 2 gb file for 4 seconds. that's probably all there is in that file.

set to encode to a common codec, h264, wmv, divx, or mpeg-2. then filesizes will be manageable and you may get usable output.--
