    Hi there,

Cant remember where it was i asked but about a year back i ask about Blank Bluray discs to save space in my office. (CD Space)
I was wondering if Bluray has improved much? What's tyhe biggest (in capacity) discs i could get hold of and would they be as good quality as Taiyo Yuden DVD-R's? Would they have as long a life expectancy? Would it work out cheaper also than buying a 100 pack of TY DVD-R's? I just wanted to fit more video files onto one disc than say...just 8 or whatever.

If bluray has improved and you would reocmmend it what's the most campatible writer with the best Bluray media?

    Thank you!

Improved, what do you mean by that?

50gb size discs (BD-R DL) and I hear lately that TY's are not as good quality as they once were so I don't know about that one.

    Unknown at this time.

No, dvd-r's are about 10-20 cent apiece for single layer discs whereas bd-r's are about 2 bucks and up per disc for single layer. Dvd-r DL (double layer) discs are about $1.5 to $2 a disc and Bd-r DL discs are around $15 (cheapest I've seen).

    Thanks for your reply.

I might go ahead with them then!

What's the best writer to go for that writes BD-R's?

Also what brand BD-R would i need to look at getting?

    Thanks m8.

    Rubbish.

Taiyo Yuden and Mitsubishi are both excellent media.

I use the LG GGW-H20L for burning, but is no longer available at newegg.

I use Blaze discs. I have burnt over a hundred of these without problems. They are only single layer though.

    That's good to know.

Which ones use to be good, but are not that good anymore? Ritech?

What is single layer? Does it mean it's weaker or something (less likely to last as long?) or does it mean can only be written to once?

I can't seem to find 'Blaze' out here in Australia so is there another very good BD Media + Writer you would recommend?

Also what about +DL's these http://asplive.xtreemtc.com.au/scripts/xtreemlive.wsc/mainp?menu=images-view&cc=135&sc=151 would you guys recommend these over Taiyo Yuden?

    If not, why not?

    Thanks!

  8. Single Layer means 25gb for bd-r. Double layer means 50gb. Verbatim discs are highly recommended. I've had no problems with my LG burner, so I would recommend LG.

    Ok excellent!

Can these files be burnt as DATA.. Like..you know when you burn just a normal DVD-R with nero and fill it up with various files, you'd burn it just as a standard DVD ROM (ISO) wouldn't you?

Can you do this with these BD Discs?

Also what about +DL's these http://asplive.xtreemtc.com.au/scrip...&cc=135&sc=151 would you guys recommend these over Taiyo Yuden?

    If not, why not?

    Thanks m8.

  10. What is your intended use? Copying your collection of Blu rays, or putting home/downloaded videos on disc? Or something else?

Just trying to think of the software you'll need.

well the use is to back up all my bluray dvds. they're all converted to .mkv and are around 2.3 GB each. Was just wondering if these BD discs were the way forward?

Would nero do the job or is there something more compatible for the job?

    Cheers mate/.

  12. I know you can add multiple mkv's to a disc and have it play, I'm just not sure how to do it. Read through some of these. There has been talk about that subject, just don't know the exact thread it was it.

I make one for one copies of my blu-rays using bdrb. Excellent program for backing up blu-rays to bd-25 discs.

  13. Bluray disc is expensive and takes time to burn specially if rewritable is used which would need formatting as well. A 1.5 terabyte HD is around $115 which can accomodate 60 single layer bluray discs just see how much 60 Bluray disc cost plus time and investment in bluray burner. For storage purposes HD is cheaper.

Could i also back up all my music on these Bluray discs though? Like burn is as a data disc so it holds all my documents and music?

    Thank you.

  15. Yes, you can use bd-r's as data backup discs. Use imgburn and select "write files/folders". Then add your files/music you want to backup and burn to disc.

    Ritek was never good.
Ricoh used to be good long ago, but not really anymore.

When I say "good" I mean "archival quality" that has few-to-none burn/read issues.

Some companies quit making discs: Pioneer, TDK, Maxell. The discs found on shelves now are just junk with their brand name stamped on it.
