Deliberate scrambling of the disk directory.

Disks like this need to be ripped using late versions of rippers, like DVDFABDECRYPTER.

It isn't. I guess it has something to do with new encryptions that makes explorer report the wrong size. Or is this a home made dvdr?

Would this be a result of Ripguard? I know that it alters directory and file structure.

  6. Multiple directory entries point to the same data. Each directory entry includes the size of the file. When software reports how much data is on the disc it adds up the size from each entry. In a book it would be something like this:

    Chapter 1 - starts on page 1, 20 pages
    Chapter 2 - starts on page 1, 20 pages
    Chapter 3 - starts on page 1, 20 pages.

Add those up and you get 60 pages. But the book only has 20 pages.

We are bidding on a job to author DVD's for Turner. It's the DVD they send out to Emmy voters for consideration. I've been given a couple of sample copies to study while working up the proposal. Strangely enough, they require Ripguard to be applied. Guess no one has told them that Ripguard is for data only. Also, I guess no one told Rovi as well.
